Measure for Measure Coming This Fall

Our Fall production will be Measure for Measure, directed by Michael Devine.  Show dates are November 18-21 at 8 pm nightly.

The Duke has lost control of Vienna. He disguises himself as a friar and hands power to a younger deputy known for his rigid moral code. A young novice nun pleads for the life of her brother, guilty of a transgression most people don’t consider a crime. But is Isabella willing to pay the price of her virtue to free him? And is the Duke really gone?

Shakespeare’s dark comedy Measure for Measure explores social space: the gap between justice and mercy, between privilege and poverty, and how our cherished beliefs founder on the rocks of daily life. Easy binary distinctions like “hero” and “villain” prove inadequate. Do problems spoil our lives, or make us stronger?

The Acadia Theatre Company is directed by Michael Devine, fresh off the success of his play Legacy at the A.N.F.I. Festival in Kraljevo, Serbia.

Michael Devine at the A.N.F.I. Festival in Serbia

Michael is writing and directing Legacy for the A.N.F.I. Festival in Kraljevo, Serbia, in July 2026.

About the play:

A refugee family, reduced to poverty in a new land, accepts a desperate offer from a mysterious man with political connections. The President and his cronies are searching for a scapegoat to deflect responsibility for their actions.

If the father takes the blame for the collapse of the new Museum of Good Behaviour, will the family find a new life?

A “black clown” comedy, featuring a multilingual and multi-ethnic cast, and performed environmentally and immersively, Legacy asks "what is the true nature of a home? What are we willing to do to find home? And what do we want to leave behind for those who follow us?”
